Director, Pharmacy of the Future Strategy

Job Summary

Drives key areas of innovation in pharmacy payment models, medication adherence and/or value based care, which includes new offerings and new partnerships. This includes but isn’t limited to pay for performance contract across all payer segments (Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial). Works cross-functionally with our clinical, operations, technology, marketing, contracting and sales teams to develop the strategy of alternative payment models to drive the future of pharmacy initiatives.

Job Requirements
  • Formulates and executes a strategic & tactical plan of developing adherence products and services that anticipate all customer and/or client needs and attitudes.
  • Guides and utilizes marketing pharmacy insights group to obtain customer and/or client driven metrics to identify product and services that are both feasible and profitable for Walgreens. Makes data-driven decisions on when and where to scale-up proof-of-concept differentiated customer products and services. Ensures data flow of research from several channels, including patients, payors, and healthcare providers.
  • Partners with contracting and sales teams to structure pay for performance contracts that are both beneficial to Walgreens as well as to the health plan/payer.
  • Directs patient and product development leaders to align strategy and execute on products and services while utilizing common product and/or service platforms where possible.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert proactively providing perspectives and ideas on current and emerging key issues affecting adherence and/or value based care services on a geographic, economical, and global level.
  • Provides input on top-down revenue targets (by segment/product), by pay for performance contract, and by channel (pharmacy, clinics, internet)
  • May represent Walgreens at professional, business, government, and/or civic organizations to ensure that Walgreens is perceived favorably as a company and as a valued business partner to the healthcare continuum.
  • Assesses, continually, the overall performance of existing products and services as it relates to their attainment of key company metrics and goals and revises strategic direction as needed to ensure viability of the model and best in class practices are followed to optimize profitability opportunities and pay for performance contracts.
  • Collaborates with Business Services to enable seamless integration from strategy formulation to execution.
  • Guide divisions to effectively cascade and implement initiatives properly aligned with the enterprise-wide priorities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8 years of experience in the healthcare industry OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 11 years of experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Experience collaborating with both internal resources, external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.
  • Experience presenting and reporting on project plans and cost benefit analyses to appropriate stakeholders, executives and senior management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in business analysis and project management.
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
