Senior Director, Wholesaler Pharmacy Inventory Management

Responsible for contributing to the development of wholesaler, inventory management and supply chain strategies, plans and operational guidelines to support the company's vision to exceed our patient’s service expectations, control COGS and manage working capital. Contributes to the development of policies and authorizes their implementation, ensuring the integration of corporate strategy and vision at the business unit and departmental levels. Acts as an idea generator, working with others as a thought leader and subject matter expert to create processes and tactics that support the company in achieving its overall business objectives. Directs and controls the activities of the functional areas of Wholesaler Relations and Inventory Management through senior managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of those assigned areas. Owns and manages the pharmacy supply chain relationship and develops strategic partnerships and projects with Amerisource Bergen and other pharmaceutical wholesalers representing over $45 Billion in annual spend and $4.5B of daily inventory. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements. Creates and fosters a high performance culture, directing the development of innovative processes and solutions to complex, organization wide challenges.

Job Responsibilities
  • Leads and develops teams responsible for developing data driven approaches, analytics, and reporting to drive strategy, operational decisions, and execution for Pharmaceutical Purchasing and Supply Chain.
  • Builds productive, value adding relationships with Amerisource Bergen our wholesaler partner to maximize procurement value on Branded Pharma and continually evolve how we are served as a customer to deliver our patient centric strategy.
  • Directs and/or oversees processes and approaches, working with a long term perspective, to ensure Pharmacy Operations can execute a perpetual inventory program across all 9,000 stores including Micro fulfillment Centers (MFCs).
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in depth knowledge of the company and its legacy (IC+/SIMS) and future systems (RXI/SAP)
  • Directs the development of innovative approaches, processes, and solutions that support department and division goals for all aspects of Rx Inventory Management down to store level.
  • Interacts internally and externally with executive level management and/ or major stakeholders to inform and lead negotiations of critical matters with suppliers and distributors.
  • Creates and fosters a high performance culture, focused on engagement, accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Makes decision about resource allocation (people and financial) within scope of responsibility in support of the vision and strategy to satisfy customer needs.
  • Owns and manages relationships with other third party service providers, including partner selection, contract negotiation, and performance management (ANDA, CAH, SmartSource). Has direct impact on short and long term divisional results.
  • Works collaboratively with Pharmacy Finance to prepare and manage annual and long range fiscal targets and present regular reporting with P&L accountability for financial metrics associated with Inventory movements.
  • Provides consultation at high levels within the Organization, providing technical leadership and advice across the company. Transfers knowledge across functions and Walgreens in support of broad organizational goals.
  • Champions company initiatives, connecting efforts to company vision and purpose and driving increased engagement.
  • Monitors industry trends, best practices, and regulatory issues as they relate to specific area(s) of responsibility and shares learnings, as appropriate, with direct reports and peers.
  • Plans, develops, and manages departmental expense and capital budgets. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
  • Develops and mentors staff through on boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 8 years of experience in a supply chain or business role OR High School Diploma/ GED and at least 11 years of experience in a supply chain or business role.
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 20% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 12 years of experience in a supply chain or business role OR a bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of experience internally at Walgreens in a supply chain or business role.
  • MBA/ Master’s Degree
  • APICS CSCP Certification
  • At least 8 years managing 3rd party relationships.
