Walgreens is seeking a Sr. Manager to join the newly formed Procurement Center of Excellence (COE) and lead Indirect or Goods Not for Resale (GNFR) Procurement Operations. In this high visibility role, you will manage several offshore teams responsible for a variety of Procurement Operations including: Help Desk Support; Vendor Onboarding and Enablement; and Accounts Payable exceptions management. You will partner with business partners throughout Walgreens Boots Alliance to drive compliance and systems/process improvements. Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development of strategy to deliver procurement analytics and insights across Group Procurement. Creates a strategy for procurement procedures, processes and tools across Walgreens. Ensures integration of procurement procedures into Group Procurement category and contract strategies.
  • Creates strategies around tools and guidelines to improve access to procurement processes, analytics and insight across Group Procurement and wider Group. Provides thought leadership to Group Procurement colleagues to develop robust category strategies by sharing industry best practices and acting as a consultant.
  • Responsible for the development of strategy to deliver procurement analytics and insights across Group Procurement. Creates a strategy for procurement procedures, processes and tools across Walgreens. Ensures integration of procurement procedures into Group Procurement category and contract strategies.
  • Creates strategies around tools and guidelines to improve access to procurement processes, analytics and insight across Group Procurement and wider Group. Provides thought leadership to Group Procurement colleagues to develop robust category strategies by sharing industry best practices and acting as a consultant.
  • Acts as a Procurement systems owner and develops a robust P2P system strategy to drive compliance and efficiency across Walgreens for goods not for resale.
  • Identifies procurement process control and governance risks. Develops and implements strategies to reduce and mitigate risks associated with Procurement processes. Partners with Internal Audit, Compliance and Diversity teams to ensure strategy alignment and execution plans.
  • Manages 3rd party analytic, data and system providers, ensuring suppliers meet performance levels and continue to develop service utilizing best practices.
  • Establishes performance reporting methodologies and procedures. Responsible for the accuracy, quality, insight and timeliness of Group Procurement performance reporting across Operational Procurement, Procurement Development and Category Teams.
  • Identifies procurement best practices identifies appropriateness and implementation methodology, implemented ensuring that these are implemented within Walgreens and shared Group-wide.. Cultivates best practice and procurement analytics services across global procurement teams, using technical knowledge applied to meet local needs.
  • Responsible for defining the tools and methodologies utilized by the Procurement Development team in gathering market and supply-base insights, and market and technology trends across the US. Presents insights and acts as a subject matter expert in the development process of category strategies.
  • Proactively seeks new opportunities to add value, through a deep understanding of procurement practices, economics, market, and technology trends. Challenges and influences Group Procurement colleagues to drive this value through category strategies.
  • Develops and manages the Sourcing Responsibly Programme to deliver sustainable value through GNFR suppliers through supplier compliance to Group Procurement policies and managing supplier risk (including reputational, sustainability, corporate and social responsibility, health & safety, anti-corruption & bribery).
  • Develops the professional competency and technical capability of the category buyers and managers to maximize individual impact and positive contribution to procurement sourcing and category management.
  • May develop and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of procurement process experience OR High School/GED and at least 8 years of procurement process experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in category management and applying procurement practices/strategies
  • At least 1 years of experience in working on procure-to-pay processes and technologies.
  • Experience in identifying and managing risks in Procurement environment.
  • Experience managing a suppliers within a corporate environment
  • Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Able to travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and nationally and internationally).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven problem solver
  • Hands on Ariba and/or SAP experience (or similar ERP platforms)
  • MBA or Master’s Degree.
  • Experienced in rolling out P2P applications across an organization.
  • Strong data analytical skills and experience with data mining applications
  • At least 10 years of experience with procurement process and sourcing.
  • Experience with SOX and Financial controls and leading audits for procurement processes.
  • An employee in this position can expect a salary/hourly rate between $83,250 and $226,440 plus bonus pursuant to the terms of any bonus plan if applicable.
