Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Community is a key role on the Government Affairs team, responsible for shaping and executing Walgreens community giving strategies. Reporting to the VP, Public Affairs, this position is responsible for developing and fostering meaningful strategic partnerships with select nonprofit
organizations and cultural and civic institutions to enhance our commitment to the communities we serve.
This individual ensures maximum return on investment for all company giving including financial and material support, services and volunteerism. In collaboration with other departments across the
enterprise, the position executes the vision for corporate giving to guide the strategy and execution of a unified and comprehensive giving model aligned with our company values. The ideal candidate must be an advocate, strategist, and executor. This role’s primary responsibilities focus on the following areas:
community engagement and corporate giving. The candidate must be able to translate vision into implementation, effectively lead a team and workstream, balance competing priorities, and be flexible with organizational evolution.

Job Responsibilities
- Facilitate Walgreens community engagement and corporate giving. Create sustainable andsuccessful partnerships through involvement and engagement coordinating when appropriate the support center and local operations to strengthen support in local communities throughcommunity investment and engagement.
- Develop strategies for strengthening and growing our community relationships, includingrespectful entry into communities.
- Maintain active and broad external engagement to ensure awareness of local community needsand opportunities, as well as a broad understanding of trends and needs in the regional andnational philanthropic ecosystem.
- Collaborate in the development of our strategic approach for working together with selectorganizations aligned with company’s mission and objectives to help address the greatest needsin our local communities. Work in partnership with local leadership team to develop andimplement programs that promote our partner focused activities supporting Walgreens strategicimperatives.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of corporate nonprofit partners to monitor programoutcomes, accelerate impact in alignment with community affairs pillar. Continuous review of newand existing grants and community funding requests while ensuring compliance in our systems, communications, and policies and procedures, to ensure greatest return on companyinvestments.
- Track initiatives and program impact and success.
- Partner with Walgreens Cares partnerships (community marketing), Walgreens Benefit Fund andthe Walgreens Foundation to align strategic vision, guiding principles and maximize impact.
- Evaluate, monitor and approve local consumer fundraising efforts in support of local nonprofitorganizations.
- Respond to volunteerism requests from various business units and BRG’s; manage execution of engagement from start to completion through activation with nonprofit partnerships aligned with group’s interests.
- Represent Walgreens in the community at events, meetings, and presentations.
- Prepare Communication Materials: Write memos and prepare briefing materials and monitor the effectiveness of these communications.
- Coordinate Internal Communication: Ensure timely and accurate communication of relevant issues to internal partners and leadership.
- Responsible for coaching, managing, mentoring, and developing direct report.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years’ experience in government affairs OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years’ experience in community affairs.
- Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
- Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: opening a workbook, inserting a row, selecting font style and size, formatting cells as currency, using copy, paste and save functions, aligning text, selecting cells, renaming a worksheet, inserting a column, selecting a chart style, inserting a worksheet, setting margins, selecting page orientation, using spell check and/or printing worksheets).
- Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: inserting, rearranging, hiding and deleting slides, navigating between slides, increasing list level, adding, centering and editing text, changing views, inserting a table or a note, moving objects, printing outline view and/or running a slide show).
- Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or print functions).
- Knowledge of the tax-exempt giving regulations.
- At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
- At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross- functional team leadership.
- Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience in community affairs and/or in the nonprofit sector.
- Knowledge of retail or pharmacy issues, Medicaid, Medicare and health care.
- Experience working in corporate government affairs or an association with a focus on health care, retail or pharmacy.
Salary Range$115400 - $196200 / Salaried
