Job Summary
The Senior Specialist, Healthcare, supports comprehensive communications and public relations strategy with a focus on Walgreens U.S. Healthcare business segment. Reporting to the Director of Communications, Healthcare, this individual partners closely with cross-functional teams to amplify and advance the priorities of the U.S. Healthcare business, including healthcare services, clinical trials and Walgreens portfolio of tech-enabled, consumer-centric healthcare companies and subsidiaries. With a special focus on healthcare B2B audiences, this individual supports communications programs that reach and engage core payer, health system, healthcare provider and life science audiences.

A trusted partner, the Communications Senior Specialist supports the end-to-end integrated communications strategies, campaigns and announcements and is an expert in writing, media relations, issues and crisis management and internal communications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Communications Strategy and Planning: Support the development and executecomprehensive communication plans to support Walgreens U.S. Healthcare priorities. Collaborate with select senior leaders and stakeholders to define audience strategies, and key messages and ensure consistent communication across various channels. Closely monitor industry trends and developments to identify opportunities for enhancing communications and earned mediaopportunities. Implement annual communications strategies and plans for key business functions that are integrated with and support their objectives.
  • Media Relations: Strengthen relationships with top-tier and healthcare trade media; pitching and earning high-quality, positive earned media coverage and responding to media requests.
  • External Communications and Campaigns: Supports external communications strategies for major announcements and contribute to the development of proactive campaigns.
  • Thought Leadership and Content Development: Develop effective messaging platforms and thought leadership plans in support business priorities. Create clear and impactful messaging that resonates with both internal and external audiences. Develop talking points, presentations and other communication materials for executives that align with the organization’s vision and goals. Partner closely with executives to ensure the brand voice and executive voices are effectively conveyed and develop clear and concise briefing materials.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans.
  • Experience working with reporters and media representatives.
  • Experience providing counsel, influence and challenge to the thinking of business leaders.
  • Experience writing and editing in AP style.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least (15%) of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or pharmacy industries, either in an agency or in-house environment.
  • Experience leading B2B communications strategies, as well as D2C
