The Walgreens-Northeastern University (NEU) Community Pharmacy Residency Program develops well-rounded, confident, and innovative community pharmacy practitioners who will advance the profession by providing superior patient care in a financially sustainable manner. To build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop competent pharmacists capable of practicing at a clinical pharmacist level, in any pharmacy setting.
The residency program is ASHP and APhA accredited post-graduate educational and training experience designed to develop phar-macists with expertise in community practice. The program prepare residents to be employed as a specialty staff pharmacist, in the specialty of their choice. The program also prepare resident to successfully match at the PGY2 program and to successfully chal-lenge the BCPS examination at the conclusion of the program.
Majority of the resident’s time will be spent at the Walgreens Community-Based Specialty Pharmacy located in the heart of the Long-wood Medical Area in Boston, Massachusetts. The resident will:
Participate in unique and innovative models of practice that continue to push healthcare forward.
Focus strongly on inter-professional collaboration and professional leadership.
Engage in transitions of care and disease state management with emphasized in HIV, Hepatitis C, oncology, mental health, Solid Organ Transplants, Diabetes and Epilepsy.
Patient care services:
Collaborate with the hospital staff to assist in reducing expenses associated with readmissions
Provide medication management and counseling services
Improve patient adherence to medication therapy and improve health outcomes
Working in a team-based practice model to help treat patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
Support patients with chronic conditions that require utilizing limited distribution drugs (LDD)
Provide additional health and wellness services including but not limited to MTM, immunizations, and blood pressure screenings
Facilitate and lead learning activities for student pharmacists in campus-based classrooms and laboratories
Serve as preceptor for IPPE, Co-Op, and APPE students
Design and lead a pharmacy-based patient care research project
Complete residency teaching certificate program
Participate in both student and professional organizations
Develop skills to become an efficient clinical staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager and store manager-Understand the complex organizational structure
Master basic leadership skills including but not limited to problem solving, action planning, delegation, accountability, and communication with team members
Collaborate with regional leadership on strategic planning to meet the mission and vision of the organization

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program
Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
