Software Engineer I (Full Stack) Java
Job ID 1810437BRThis role develops and supports components of the Walgreens Digital/Online platform within an Agile environment. The position is primarily focused on backend development using Java and Spring Boot, with opportunities to contribute to frontend development using React. The Software Engineer I will support digital capabilities related to catalog, product and store pricing that enable key online retail experiences, including shopping and checkout. Work typically involves short-term assignments for small to medium systems and requires independent judgment within defined procedures. The team member will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners to develop, enhance and support reliable digital solutions.

- Performs and implements daily operational activities that generally influence mid-level components / processes of technology function, including but not limited to writing code and scripts that provide desired functionality to the software products and programs. Performs and implements daily operational activities that impact discrete components / processes of the engineering work function, and may include responsibilities, such as: participating in improvement and monitoring of deployment operations on pre-release, upgrades and current versions of software; participating in evaluating compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features; participating in development of protocols to support established standards; improving operation and monitoring of standard and advanced features; participating in development of processes and interface requirements; participating in data development and definition of acceptance criteria.
- Creates, develops and maintains software code working in an agile environment.
- Evolves software solutions that meet product functionality and quality needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, schedules and adherence to program goals and principles.
- Analyzes and reviews system requirements. Uses requirement and other design documents to gain overall understanding of the functionality of the new or enhanced application.
- Participates in the design, architecture and build phases, to aim at producing high quality deliverables, working with existing architects where appropriate. Participates in the evaluation of compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features.
- Provides recommendations on product and development environment improvements.
- Reviews and maintains sprint tasks and issue tracking for products
- Maintains and supports existing and develops web-based prototypes, applications and tools.
- Effectively resolves problems, roadblocks and basic problems as they occur.
- Gathers and updates necessary information and communicates to appropriate parties

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field of study OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of coding web or mobile applications
- Knowledge of Agile
- Willing to travel up to 10 % of the time for business purposes ((within state and out of state)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or working knowledge of backend application development using Java and Spring or Spring Boot.
- Experience or exposure working with REST APIs, backend services or full-stack application development.
- Knowledge of frontend development using React, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Knowledge of relational or NoSQL database technologies such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB or similar platforms.
- Exposure to cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud or Cloud Foundry.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments or DevOps practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes and contribute to practical solutions.
- Experience or interest in supporting customer-facing digital applications and retail capabilities, including catalog, product, pricing, shopping or checkout experiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional partners.
Salary Range: $79300 - $127000 / Salaried
