Growing Your Skills

Walgreens supports the development and growth of its team members. So if you want to expand your career, we want to help. Your next move might require fine-tuning some of the skills you currently have and/or developing new ones. Your overall skillset should include both soft and hard skills that you can use to round out your professional profile. Soft skills are traits that make you a good employee, such as communication, listening and friendliness. Hard skills are traits that are measurable such as knowledge of computer programs or data analysis. Collecting and mastering skills comes over time. Therefore, take an inventory of the things you’re currently good at as well as, identify areas of opportunity to learn. There are plenty of ways to expand your knowledge at Walgreens.

Gaining Experience

One of the best ways to develop your skills is to gain cross-functional experience, which means working in a variety of positions and learning all areas of your business. By doing this, you’ll have a better understanding of our processes from start to finish and you’ll get a better idea of what skills are helpful for each area of the business.

One way to gain cross-functional experience is to job shadow another team member in a different area of the business. Job shadows can give you a sneak peek into a role that you may be interested in. Chat with your manager to get started.

Lateral job movement is another way to gain cross-functional experience. This is when you take a new role – at the same level – on a different team or group within Walgreens. That can help you get the skills you need to make your next big move, whether it’s in management or even an entirely different part of the business.

Beginning your search

Getting started is simple. If you’re a current Walgreens team member and you’re interested in applying for another role, please visit our Applicant Tracking System (ATS) on W Connect. You can access W Connect here or from your mobile device through the W Connect app. Note: Even though you’re an internal candidate, it’s important to upload your resume to your online application. Recruiters want to see your skill sets, how you explain your career journey and what skills you currently possess. Don’t worry, your internal resume doesn’t need to be different than your external resume.

Once you’ve accessed our ATS, you can search for and apply to open positions that interest you. You can search by specific job titles, job functions, keywords or a requisition ID number. Once you’ve found a job you’re interested in, click the apply button and the system will tell you an estimated time it will take to complete the application. You can also save the job and return to complete your application to complete at a later time.
