Job Summary
As a key member of Media Relations and Issues Management team, the Specialist role will support the teams' initiatives and efforts. Those support efforts including managing and tracking the inbound media inquiries, engage in cross-departmental relationships, and ensure timely and effective communications within the department and at times, with external media. This role ultimately keeps the media relations engine running smoothly, providing other essential services such as managing the department’s schedule, and providing ad hoc communications support, including project management, plan development, writing, editing, proofing and other related communications activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manages and tracks inbound media requisitions, including routing to appropriate contact and recording response and resulting coverage.
  • Creates and manages multiple department schedules, including but not limited to department meetings, on-call calendar and department events
  • Manages work streams of small projects, and coordinates/manages certain aspects of larger projects.
  • Collaborates with members of Walgreens Communications team on regular reporting for the department for various internal and external audiences.
  • Ensures assigned duties and responsibilities/project results are completed with quality and are timely and accurate in nature to meet project leadership expectations.
  • Tracks progress/activities of team and work products/deliverables utilizing project management software and other standard tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 3 years of experience in Communications or related field.
  • Experience writing and editing using the Associated Press stylebook.
  • Experience being part of planning, development, and implementation of global press office communication activities.
  • Experience with media, reporting methods and public relations strategies / tactics.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations or related field.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries.
  • At least 4 years of experience working in press, media and/or public affairs.
  • Media Relations and marketing experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Experience managing tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    Salary Range$63100 - $101200 / Salaried
